Jim Purinton is Managing Director for Janko Group and is responsible for overseeing the development aspects of the firm’s real estate projects, including all commercial projects in the hospitality, industrial, office and retail sectors. In addition, Jim is responsible for securing entitlements and managing pre-construction activities for the company’s residential projects.
Jim joined Janko Group after 35 years of real estate development, management, acquisition and asset management activity. During the most recent real estate recovery, Jim acted as principal in the acquisition and repositioning of several distressed and value-add retail properties. Prior to that, Jim was development partner for a Denver-based value-add acquisitions and investment company, pursuing industrial, office and retail projects in Chicago, Phoenix, Denver and San Diego. For 16 years prior to that, Jim headed the development and construction team at ORIX Real Estate Equities that completed over 90 retail, office, industrial, hotel and apartment development projects totaling almost $1.8 billion, located in 22 states and Canada. Jim was President of ORIX for eight of those years. Previously, Jim was Vice President of Prudential Insurance where he managed the development of over 10 million square feet of development projects including The Chicago Hilton and Towers and the redevelopment of Prudential Plaza in downtown Chicago.
Jim earned a BS in Environmental Studies (Phi Beta Kappa), a MS in Urban and Regional Planning, and an MS in Real Estate (Sigma Alpha honors) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jim is active in the Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association and has been affiliated with NAIOP, ULI and ICSC during his career. He has been married for more than 40 years, has two sons, and lives in Northbrook.
